Luanda – The head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, promulgated Friday morning in Luanda the new Constitution of the Republic of Angola. The ceremony was preceded by the hearing of the national anthem. XXX
According to the chairman of the Constitutional Court, Rui Ferreira, the Constitution had previously been inspected by the institution he leads, on request from one fifths of the National Assembly (Parliament) members. XXX
The Constitution comprises eight titles, 244 articles and three annexes which refer to the symbols of the Republic. The Constitution was approved in general on January 21 and the final text on February 3, following a couple of changes ruled by the Constitutional Court. XXX
The promulgation ceremony was attended by MPs, Government officials and Angolan Armed Forces officers.
