Angolan Opec presidency excellent - secretary general
Luanda 21/22/09 - Opec general secretary, Adbullah Al Badri, today considered excellent the angolan presidency of the Organization of petroleum exporting countries, stressing that, if allowed by the statutes, he would like to see the angolan mandate extended.
Addressing a press conference at the end of the 155th annual Opec meeting mr Al Badri stated that he has worked closely with the outgoing Opec president, the angolan oil minister Botelho de Vaconcelos, what allowed to successfuly guide the organization to the best interests of its 12 member states.
Angola took over the Opec presidency from Algeria on December 17, 2008, in Oran city (Algeria) and is being replaced by Equador, which has been the vice-president.
With 79 per cent of the world crude reserves, Opec has a strong influence in the oil prices in the international market, trhough production quotas according to the market.
The Opec member states are Angola, Algeria, Equador, Katar, Kuwait, Iran, Iraq, Lybia, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Venezuela.
