Angola to produce 5 000 megawatts of electrical power by 2016

Luanda 25/08/09 – The manager for international products of Brazilian construction company Odebrecht, Sérgio Kraenzer, informed this Tuesday, in Luanda, that the country may be able to supply 5,319 megawatts of electrical power by 2016.

Speaking to Angop, the manager said that the country counts currently on distribution of 967 megawatts, a low capacity to cover all national territory.

“With the government investments, estimated at USD five billion to rebuild and increase capacity of dams, as well as to repair central thermal units and linking north, south and central electric systems, the country will have in 2016 at least 5,319 megawatts”.

The source explained that these megawatts will be distributed in three electric systems, in north, with 797 in 2009, and afterwards 4,619 in 2016.

The central system, that currently contains 101 megawatts, will possess 650, south system with 69 will reach 416 in 2016, completing 5,319 megawatts.
