Industrial association defends national products free of tax

Luanda 23/08/09 – The chairperson of the Industrial Association of Angola (AIA), José Severino, defended this Monday the elimination of stamp and consumption duties on all national products.

Speaking to ANGOP about the approval of the guidelines on the fiscal reform, José Severino stressed the need for exemption of duties of consumption on all national products, with the exception to alcoholic beverages, petrol (subsidised), water and electricity.

The official said the existence of consensus within the Fiscal Reform Committee, mainly from the ministers of Finance and Economy, only lacking the creation of a law to make the situation official.

On the other hand, everything the government obtained from imports with view to reduce the costs of residences, should be given in compensation to the national products, to various carpentry, blacksmith's workshop, forest exploration industries and joinery, among others.

To him, national products from these sectors should have fiscal benefits, since similar products were tax-free during importation, as well as paints, mainly those produced by water (for construction works).

José Severino also said that there is a new custom tariff deriving from a work carried out by the National Customs Department and by the Finance Ministry, which removed taxes from machines, raw material and equipment.
