Angola-Portugal trade may reach over two billion Euros

Luanda 10/16/09 – By late this year, the business volume between Angola and Portugal may reach 2.5 billion Euros as result of the “excellent moment” of cooperation between both countries, said the Portuguese ambassador to Angola, Francisco Ribeiro Teles.

In an interview to ANGOP, in the light of the Day of Portugal, Camões and of the Communities, being commemorated this Wednesday, Francisco Teles said that this trade growth results from the diversification of exports.

According to that diplomat, Angola is the most diversified market for Portuguese exports, since various products that were not exported to Angola are now being done so.

“Angola is the most diversified market for Portuguese exportation. We export electric machines, machines, food products, among other products that did not exist n the past”, said Francisco Teles.

The ambassador said that Angola is the most important country (the first) of the exports from Portugal, outside Europe, and the fourth of portuguese exports worldwide, something that shows the excellent moment of relations existing between the two countries.

Although he said that here are no exact figures, Francisco Teles estimated that by late 2009 the trade activity between both nations might reach 2.5 billions Euros, a very significant amount judging by their economic relations.

The source informed that Portuguese exports to Angola are rising at an average of 30 percent a year.
