UK invests USD two billion in trading

Luanda 14/6/09 – The Government of the United Kingdom has already spent USD two billion in Angola, part of the bilateral cooperation, thus becoming its second trade partner, Angop learnt on Sunday in Luanda, from the UK ambassador to Angola, Pat Philips.

Speaking to press, at the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, following the arrival on Sunday in Angola, the minister of Foreign Affairs and Commonwealth, Lord Malloch Brown, the British diplomat said that she hopes that this visit can help to strengthen even further the bilateral cooperation which she considers as excellent.

"I hope that the bilateral cooperation can be reinforced, with the increase of investment in new political and economic areas", she stressed.

The United Kingdom and Angola have already cooperate in oil, air transports, custom services, as well as demining.

"I am very proud for the support given by the British Government to the Angolan electoral process, 2008, part of the European mission, which I regard the highest point of this cooperation", she underlined.

During his two-day trip to the Southern African country, Malloch Brown is due on Monday to meet the minister of Economy, Manuel Nunes, the chairperson of the National Agency of Private Investment (Anip), Aguinaldo Jaime, with the deputy minister of Foreign Affairs, Exalgina Gambôa, as well as a brief visit to the headquarters of the ruling MPLA, where he is scheduled to meet the governing party’s Foreign Affairs secretary, Paulo Teixeira Jorge.

Yet on Monday, the British official will attend a press conference, in the house of ambassador Pat Philips, where he will assess his trip to Angola.
