Agriculture ministry assesses forest inventory

Luanda 10/29/08 - Experts belonging to Agriculture ministry are meeting as from Wednesday in Luanda to assess the implementation of project related to the national forest inventory, for a real knowledge of the potentialities of the country's sector.

According to project's coordinator, Mateus Simão André, the USD 1 million worth inventory will be implemented in three phases. The first phase has to do with the training of technicians, whereas the two remaining phases involve distribution of the trained experts in several areas and in analysis of results obtained from the previous stages.

On implementation of the project, Mateus André referred that 70 percent will be funded by the Angolan Government and 30% by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

In his turn, the vice-minister of Agriculture, André de Jesus Moda, who presided over the opening session, the forest resources should be wisely spent with view to contribute to the reduction of poverty in the country.

The two-day event will discuss on the need of setting up a unit of forestry inventory in the Forest Development Institute (IDF), duly equipped and staffed.
