Head of State briefed on special economic zone

Luanda 10/25/08 - The Angolan President, José Eduardo dos Santos, this Thursday assessed the progress of the construction works of the Special Economic Zone (ZEE) located in Viana district, 30 kilometres from the city centre, where 70 factories will be installed, including 11 that have already been concluded.

The statesman visited ZEE, which will have manufacturing units related to various sectors such as foodstuff, clothes, shoes, copper and aluminium casting, pharmaceutics, construction material, electricity, metal-mechanic machines, among others, in the framework of his field work visit.

The Special Economic Zone comprises industrial and business estates, a technology and conventions centre and will employ around 3,000 people.

Besides the industry, it also includes the construction of streets, water and electricity sub-stations, drainage structures and waste water treatment station, as well as a water reservoir.

ZEE has a total area of 8,000 hectares, in which 106 plots will be site aside for the construction of industries.

Under the ZEE project, two ceramic plants are being built in Catete district, and a cement factory and a brewery are also being built in Bom Jesus locality, all in the northern Bengo province.

The prime minister, Paulo Kassoma, ministers of Finance, Severim de Morais, Economy, Manuel Nunes Júnior, Planning, Ana Dias Lourenço, Urbanisation and Housing, Diakimpuna Sita José, among other government officials accompanied the President of the Republic in this field work visit.
